Second Meeting
Our second one-day meeting was on the Friday 13th June 2008 at the Physics Department, John Anderson Building, Strathclyde University, Glasgow. Prof. Mark Hillery (CUNY) gave the keynote address which was on the topic of Quantum Machines. Details. Poster
Professor Mark Hillery is a pioneer of quantum optics and quantum information, having invented (along with Vladimir Buzek) approximate quantum cloning, and is currently working on quantum state discrimination, as well asbeing the quantum information editor at Physical Review A.
Inaugural Meeting
Our inaugural meeting was on Thursday 27th March 2008 in Edinburgh. Our main speakers were be Prof. Steve Barnett FRS (Strathclyde) and Prof. Samson Abramsky FRS (Oxford). Details: Programme, Attending, Meeting Poster (PDF). Photos from the meeting can be found here. Highlights only.
Prof. Barnett is Professor of Quantum Optics at the University of Strathclyde and is distinguished for his contributions to theoretical quantum optics and electrodynamics. His more recent work has produced fundamental advances in the development of strategies for the secure transfer and retrieval of quantum-optical information.
Prof. Abramsky is the Christopher Strachey Professor of Computing. He employs ideas and methods which have already proved useful in Computer Science to develop an elegant, conceptual approach, both to the foundations of Quantum Mechanics itself, and to the description, design and analysis of quantum information processing systems.
